Robert Benedic "Ben" Browder: From Psychology to Stardom
Early Life and EducationRobert Benedic "Ben" Browder was born on December 11, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. His parents were race car drivers. Browder attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he earned a degree in psychology and excelled as a football player.
Career Beginnings
During his time at Furman, Browder met his future wife, actress Francesca Buller, at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He made his television debut in the sitcom "Part of Five," playing the role of Sam Brody in the third season.
"Farscape" and International Recognition
Browder's breakthrough came in 1999 when he landed the lead role of John Crichton in the sci-fi series "Farscape." The show became a critical and fan favorite, earning Browder two Saturn Awards for Best Actor on Television. During the filming of "Farscape," Browder and Buller moved to Australia with their two children.
Post-"Farscape" Roles
After "Farscape" concluded in 2003, Browder returned to the United States. He starred in the films "A Killer Within" and "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels." He also reprised his role as John Crichton in the "Farscape: The Peacekeepers Wars" miniseries in 2004.
"Stargate SG-1" and Beyond
In 2005, Browder joined the cast of "Stargate SG-1" as Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell. The series also featured Claudia Black, his former "Farscape" co-star. Since then, Browder has appeared in numerous television shows and films, including "Burn Notice," "Criminal Minds," and "Chuck."
Voice Work and Writing
In addition to his acting, Browder is also an accomplished voice actor. He has voiced characters in animated series such as "Justice League Unlimited" and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." He is also a writer, contributing to projects such as the "Stargate: Atlantis" episode "The Siege, Part 3."
