Early Life and CareerRobert Goulet was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Joseph and Jennette Goulet. From an early age, he discovered his passion for music, singing in the church choir. Inspired by his father's dying words, he embarked on a musical career.
After his father's passing, Goulet relocated to Edmonton, Canada. In Toronto, he enrolled at the Royal Conservatory of Music and made his debut performance in Edmonton in 1951. He subsequently worked as a DJ for CKUA for two years.
Stardom in the 1950s
Goulet quickly gained popularity in Canada as a young star, gracing stages in numerous theatrical productions and radio and television broadcasts. His charisma and vocal prowess captivated audiences, earning him widespread acclaim.
Breakthrough Performances
In 1960, Goulet landed a pivotal role in the Broadway musical "Camelot" alongside Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. This performance solidified his status as a leading man. His talent was further recognized in his award-winning turn in "Happy Time" in 1968.
International Recognition
Goulet's reputation extended beyond Canada, garnering him international recognition. He became a frequent guest on television shows and hosted his popular variety program, "The Blue Light." With over 60 best-selling albums to his credit, including a Grammy Award-winning record, Goulet cemented his place as a beloved entertainer.
Personal Life
Goulet married three times. His first marriage to Louise Longmore produced a daughter, Nicki. He later wed actress and singer Carol Lawrence, with whom he had two sons, Christopher and Michael. In 1982, he married Vera Novak, a Yugoslav writer, photographer, and artist.
Film and Television Appearances
In addition to his musical career, Goulet branched out into film and television. Notable appearances include "Atlantic City" (1980), "Beetlejuice" (1988), and "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear" (1991). His versatility and charm made him a memorable presence on both the big and small screens.
