Biography of Robert Johansson
Robert Johansson is a Norwegian ski jumper, known for his achievements in the sport. He won the bronze medal in the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and was a former world record holder for the longest jump.
Early Career
Johansson made his debut in international competitions under the FIS in the autumn of 2006 in Ernesheldsvik, Sweden. Two years later, he debuted in the Continental Cup. In 2009 and 2010, he participated in the World Junior Championships, where he placed 29th in individual competitions and reached the fourth position as part of the national team.
Continental Cup and World Cup
Starting from the 2011/12 season, Johansson became a regular participant in the Continental Cup and achieved an eighth-place finish in its overall standings. He made his World Cup debut in the beginning of the 2013/14 Olympic season, placing 13th in Kuusamo. Although he did not secure a permanent spot in the strong Norwegian team, he earned 43 World Cup points by competing in selected events.
Breakthrough and World Record
Johansson finally solidified his position in the main Norwegian team during the 2016/17 season. On the third stage of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, he achieved the second-best result despite challenging weather conditions and having only one attempt. He finished 2.4 points behind his teammate, Daniel-Andre Tande. At the 2017 World Championships, he placed 17th in the individual competition on the normal hill. On March 18, 2017, he set a new world record of 252 meters on the flying hill in Vikersund, surpassing the previous record held by Anders Fannemel by half a meter. However, his record was broken just half an hour later by Stefan Kraft from Austria.
Olympic Success
In the first day of competition at the Pyeongchang Olympics, Johansson achieved success by winning the bronze medal on the K-98 hill. His impressive performance secured him a place on the podium and showcased his talent and skill as a ski jumper.
