Biography of Robert Kuttner

Robert Kuttner is an American journalist, writer, and economist. He was born in 1943 in New York City. Kuttner attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, graduating in 1965, and later studied at the University of California, Berkeley. He also pursued studies at the London School of Economics.

Throughout his career, Kuttner has held various teaching positions at institutions such as Brandeis University, Boston University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and the Institute of Politics at Harvard University. He has been a member of the John F. Kennedy Society at Harvard University, the Woodrow Wilson Society at the University of California, Berkeley, a Guggenheim fellow, and a member of the Radcliffe Public Policy Society. Kuttner has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Swarthmore College.

Kuttner has extensive experience as an author and editor in national publications. He worked for Pacifica Radio, served as the general manager of WBAI-FM in New York, and was the Washington editor of the Village Voice. He also served as the economic editor of The New Republic and worked with The Washington Post.

From 1984 to 2005, Kuttner was one of the five contributors to the "Economic Viewpoint" section in BusinessWeek, and since 1985, he has been a columnist for The Boston Globe. He is the author of several books on economic theory and labor theory of value, including "The Economic Illusion," "Everything For Sale: The Virtues and Limits of Markets," "The End of Laissez-Faire," "The Life of the Party," and "The Squandering of America: How the Failure of Our Politics Undermines Our Prosperity." His most recent book is "Obama's Challenge: America's Economic Crisis and the Power of a Transformative Presidency," which focuses on President Barack Obama.

Kuttner is also a frequent commentator on radio and television. In addition to his work as a journalist and writer, he is involved in various public affairs. He serves as an investigator for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Kuttner's first wife, the late Sharland Grace Trotter, was a psychotherapist and writer. His current wife, Joan Fitzgerald, leads the legal, political, and social program at Northeastern University in Boston. Kuttner has a daughter, Jessica Kuttner, who works as a social worker in western Massachusetts, and a son, Gabriel Kuttner, who is a theater actor and director in Boston.
