Robert Sahakyants: Armenian Animation Legend

Early Life and Career

Robert Sahakyants, a renowned Armenian animator, was born in 1939. He studied at the Yerevan Art and Theatre Institute and began his career as an animator in 1964.

Soviet Era

In 1970, Sahakyants joined the "Armenfilm" studio as an animator and later became a director in 1972. He wrote and designed most of his over 30 short films, which received critical acclaim and awards at international and Soviet Union festivals.

Post-Soviet Era

After Armenia's independence, Sahakyants became the artistic director of the animation union at "Armenfilm." He collaborated with the "Yellow Submaryan" group to create a series of animated music videos.

Influence and Recognition

Sahakyants' work is widely regarded as some of the most significant in Armenian animation. His adaptations of Armenian folktales, such as "Who Will Tell a Fairy Tale?" (1987), became well-known in Russia as well. In 1987, he earned the title of Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR.

Legacy

Sahakyants' animations continue to inspire and entertain audiences worldwide. His artistic vision and storytelling abilities have left a lasting impact on the field of animation. He passed away in 2009, but his legacy lives on through his beloved characters and stories.
