Biography of Robert Caraccioli
Early LifeRobert Caraccioli was an Italian prelate and mendicant preacher who made significant contributions to theological scholarship and homiletics. He was born in Lecce, Italy, and is therefore also known as Robert of Lecce.
Family and Education
Caraccioli belonged to the ancient Larmine family, which traced its lineage back to the Roman Julian gens. He received a thorough education, likely in the Franciscan tradition.

Caraccioli became the Bishop of Aquino. He is known for his theological writings and his ability as a preacher.
Printed Works
Caraccioli's sermons were among the first Italian books to be printed in Gothic type. In 1473, a Venetian edition of his sermons made history as one of the earliest examples of printed Italian literature.
In 1489, a collection of Caraccioli's works was published in Venice with a record-breaking print run of 2000 copies for the time.
Legacy
Caraccioli's fame extended beyond Italy. His witty anecdotes were widely known and were included in the English collection "Tales and Quick Answers" in 1549.
