Roberto Vittori: Italian Astronaut, European Space Agency Representative
Roberto Vittori, an Italian astronaut and member of the European Space Agency (ESA), has had a distinguished career in aviation and space exploration.
Early Career and Training
- Completed training at the Italian Air Force Academy in 1989- Underwent training in the United States on the Tornado jet
- Graduated from the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School in 1995
- Served as a test pilot for the EF2000 aircraft at the Italian Flight Test Center
ESA Selection and Training
- Selected as an ESA representative to the European Astronaut Corps in 1998
- Assigned to the Johnson Space Center in Houston for training
Soyuz TM-34 Mission- Participated in the Soyuz TM-34 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2002
- Conducted scientific experiments and assisted in the installation of an emergency escape capsule
