Early Life and EducationRobin Tunney was born in Chicago, Illinois, to an Irish-immigrant father and an Irish-American mother. She attended Carl Sandburg High School and later studied acting at the Chicago Academy for the Arts.
Career Beginnings
At the age of 18, Tunney relocated to Los Angeles and began her television career with guest appearances in shows like "Law & Order" and "Life Goes On." She also portrayed Kathleen Kennedy in the television film "J.F.K.: Reckless Youth."
Breakthrough Roles
Tunney's breakthrough role came as a suicidal teenager in "Empire Records." She followed this with a starring role in "The Craft," alongside Neve Campbell and Rachel Ticotin, receiving the MTV Movie Award for Best Fight for her performance.
Critical Acclaim
In 1997, Tunney won the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Bob Gosse's "Niagara, Niagara." She continued to earn acclaim for her performances in "End of Days" (1999), "Vertical Limit" (2000), and "Open Window" (2006).
