Romina Oprandi, a professional tennis player, was born on March 29, 1986 in Jegenstorf, Canton of Bern, Switzerland. She holds dual citizenship of Switzerland and Italy.
Early Life and Family
Romina Oprandi was born to Roberto and Romy Oprandi. Her mother works as a manager in a sports center, while her father is a telecommunications specialist and owner of a sports center. Her brother, Romeo Oprandi, serves as her coach.
Tennis Career
Oprandi made her professional debut in 2005, representing Italy until January 2012, when she joined the Swiss Tennis Federation. Her highest ranking in the world was 46th place on September 25, 2006. Standing at 172 cm tall and weighing 66 kg, she is right-handed with a two-handed backhand stroke. She has earned a total of $742,381 in prize money.
Throughout her career, Oprandi has achieved victories in 22 ITF tournaments in singles and 10 ITF tournaments in doubles. However, she has yet to win a WTA tournament. Her favorite surface to play on is clay.
Personal Life
Outside of tennis, Oprandi enjoys playing football and squash, going for walks, and listening to music and watching movies. She has two pets, a cat named Snoopy and a dog named Mogli. Oprandi is multilingual, speaking German, English, French, and Italian.
Notable Achievements
Oprandi first caught attention in 2006 when she reached the quarterfinals of a WTA Tier I Series tournament in Rome, but lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova. She competed in Wimbledon and the US Open the same year but was eliminated in the first round by Francesca Schiavone and Svetlana Kuznetsova, respectively.
In 2012, Oprandi won her first ITF singles title in Denain, France. She continued to participate in various WTA and ITF tournaments, including the Australian Open and French Open. Despite facing injuries, Oprandi showed improvements in her game in the following seasons, reaching the semifinals in several tournaments.
On August 12, 2012, Oprandi triumphed over Anna Chakvetadze at the 2012 EmblemHealth Bronx Open in the Bronx, New York, becoming the champion in singles.
