Early Life and Criminal Activity
Born Ron Killings on January 19, 1972, R-Truth grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. At an early age, he developed a passion for hip-hop and breakdancing and attended high school at Harding University High School, where he excelled in both football and track and field. Despite receiving college scholarships, Killings opted to pursue a music career, immersing himself in the city's vibrant hip-hop scene.
However, Killings also resorted to illegal activities to supplement his income, selling cocaine on the streets from the age of 20. He faced multiple arrests and spent time in jail, culminating in a 13-month sentence. After his release, Killings vowed to leave his criminal past behind.
Professional Wrestling Career
World Wrestling Federation (1999-2002)In 1999, Killings signed a two-year contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He debuted as K-Kwik and quickly joined forces with Road Dogg, forming the highly entertaining team "The Truth Commission." The duo won the WWF Hardcore Championship twice, bringing the title to prominence with their unpredictable and humorous antics.
Xtreme Pro Wrestling (2002)
After leaving the WWF, Killings briefly wrestled for Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW) under the moniker "K. Malik Shabazz." He competed in tag team matches but did not achieve significant success.
Return to WWE
RAW; United States Champion (2010-2011)In 2010, R-Truth returned to WWE as R-Truth. Teaming with John Morrison, he captured the Unified Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 27. Truth later defeated The Miz to win the United States Championship.
The Awesome Truth (2011-2012)
R-Truth's career took a new turn in 2011 when he aligned with The Miz to form "The Awesome Truth." The duo challenged for the WWE Championship and engaged in a bitter feud with John Cena. However, tensions arose within the team, and Truth eventually attacked Miz, leading to their breakup.
Various Championships and the 24/7 Title (2018-Present)
In recent years, R-Truth has won several championships, including the United States Championship and the WWE 24/7 Championship. He has become synonymous with the latter title, having held it a record-breaking number of times. Truth has also formed a comedic duo with Carmella, who often helps him defend his 24/7 title.
