Indian Family Sets Guinness World Record as Largest Albino Family
45-year-old Mani Pullan, an Indian, believes that the unique appearance of her entire family is a gift from God. While albinism is rarely seen in such a light, the Pullan family is undeniably unusual, though their condition brings more difficulties than advantages. Led by 50-year-old Rosetauri and 45-year-old Mani, the Pullan family will soon be featured in the pages of all the world's record books. The Indian family has set a rather extraordinary record - they have become the parents of the largest albino family in the world.
A Family of Albino Members
Currently, the Pullan family consists of 10 members, including Rosetauri and Mani. They all share an extremely pale complexion and practically white hair. Along with their unique appearance, the family also inherited common vision problems and at times face unpleasant attitudes from others. However, the Pullans have learned to ignore the prejudices of others and have gained worldwide fame by setting a new Guinness World Record.
An Unconventional Family
Rosetauri and Mani have six children: 24-year-old Shankar, 25-year-old Vijay, 19-year-old Ramkishan, 23-year-old Renu, 21-year-old Deepa, and 18-year-old Pooja. All six children have inherited albinism to the fullest extent. Later, Renu married 27-year-old albino Rosheh, and their 2-year-old son, Dharamraj, continues the "family tradition" and looks just like his albino relatives. The family currently resides in a small apartment in Delhi.
Challenges and Acceptance
According to the Pullans, many locals refuse to believe in their Indian origin. Rosetauri even confessed that he often receives derogatory remarks, being called an "angrez," meaning "Englishman." Rosetauri and Mani got married in 1983 through an arranged marriage, which turned out to be quite successful. Mani herself believes that the albinism that sets their family apart is a divine gift. However, many people do not understand them and they often feel like outsiders in the Indian community. Even in Delhi, where people are relatively open-minded and liberal by the country's standards, there are still those who see the Pullans as foreigners.
A Rare Condition
Albinism is a rather rare condition, with an average of one albino person per 17,000 individuals. Those affected by this condition stand out due to the absence of melanin in their bodies. Melanin is the special pigment that not only provides color to the skin, eyes, and hair but also protects the body from the sun's rays. Unfortunately, the Pullans do not benefit from the protective effects of melanin, which is a significant problem and inconvenience in India.
A Resilient Family
In addition to the physiological challenges, the Pullan family also suffers from social rejection. Nevertheless, they have learned to withstand adversity and refuse to give in to difficulties. Official representatives from the Guinness World Records have already commented on the situation, stating that agents will soon contact the Pullans to confirm their record. Interestingly, the Indian family did not invent a new record but simply surpassed the previous largest albino family, which was a Canadian-American family. It is difficult to say how being in the Guinness World Records will change the Pullan's life, but this extraordinary family has long ceased to complain about their hardships.
