Biography of Rudy Youngblood
Rudy Youngblood is an American actor of Yakama, Comanche, and Cree Native American descent. He was born in 1982 and grew up in Texas and Arizona. Before being cast by Mel Gibson for the lead role in the film "Apocalypto," Rudy worked as a construction worker, traveling around the country with Native American theatrical dance performances, in some of which he participated as an artist. He also toured with the Native American Dance Theater.
Acting Career
In July 2005, Rudy moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Within three months, he landed the role of Jaguar Paw in Mel Gibson's epic film "Apocalypto," which depicted the customs and lifestyle of the Mayan civilization. The director and screenwriters aimed for historical accuracy, so Rudy learned one of the Mayan languages, Yucatec, in preparation for the film. Due to his athletic training, which included horseback riding, boxing, and running, Rudy was able to perform most of the film's stunts himself, including a dangerously high jump from a waterfall. Stunt coordinator Mick Rogers said of Rudy, "He is an impeccable athlete. He has a head on his shoulders, and he's always on top of his game. Rudy could have been a stuntman if he hadn't chosen acting."
Other Interests
Rudy is also passionate about painting. He creates artworks using charcoal, oil, and acrylic paints.
