Ryan Potter: From Ninja to Superhero

Childhood and Early Life

Ryan Potter was born on September 12, 1995, in Portland, Oregon. His mother, Jordana, is Jewish, while his father is Japanese. After his parents divorced, Ryan moved to Tokyo with his father until he was seven years old. He had limited English proficiency when he returned to the US, but he embraced Japanese culture, studying martial arts and playing baseball.

Acting Career

Potter's acting career began serendipitously at age 15. In 2010, he stumbled upon a casting call for Nickelodeon's "Supah Ninjas." With his martial arts background and striking East Asian features, he landed the lead role of Mike Fukanaga, a ninja descendant fighting crime. The series became a commercial success, propelling Potter into the spotlight.

Voice Acting and "Big Hero 6"

In 2014, Potter voiced the titular character, Hiro Hamada, in the Academy Award-winning animated film "Big Hero 6." He enjoyed voice acting and went on to lend his voice to "Elf-Tron" and "Big Hero 6: The Series."

"Titans": Embracing Beast Boy

In 2018, Potter joined the cast of "Titans" as Garfield Logan, also known as Beast Boy. To fully embody the character, he immersed himself in the comic books and animated appearances of Beast Boy. The portrayal resonated with fans, who gifted him with plush tigers after the show's premiere.

Personal Life

Ryan Potter stands at 5'7" and weighs 160 lbs. He has an athletic physique and has had several high-profile relationships, including with actress Gracie Dzienny, vlogger Bethany Mota, and actress Conor Leslie. There have also been rumors of his non-traditional sexual orientation.

Potter enjoys fashion and models for various agencies. Outside of work, he is known to be private, describing himself as a bit of a "hermit." He is an avid reader and admires Wilson Rawls' "Where the Red Fern Grows." Comparing himself to animals, he identifies with the boar, panda, and fox for their perseverance, laziness, and cunning, respectively.

Activism and Philanthropy

Potter is dedicated to giving back. At 16, he founded Toy Box of Hope, an organization that collects and distributes toys to children in need. He has also spoken out about homelessness, same-sex marriage, and anti-racism.

Recent Projects

Potter continues to act in both live-action and voice roles. He recently voiced Hiro Hamada in "Baymax!" and stars in the action film "Joe Jitsu." Season 4 of "Titans" premiered in November 2022, with Potter reprising his role as Garfield Logan.
