Attempt on Former President Donald Trump's Life

On September 15, 2024, an American male, later identified as Michael Raut, allegedly attempted to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, a Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The motives behind Raut's actions are still under investigation.

Arrest and Shooting

Responding to the incident, Secret Service agents fired at Raut, who was hiding in bushes with an SKS-type rifle at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Raut was shot multiple times as he was apparently aiming his weapon across the golf course's fence line, about 300-500 yards from the former president. Trump and Republican megadonor and real estate investor Steve Witkoff were walking between the fifth and sixth holes at the time. Raut fled the scene but was later apprehended as the prime suspect.

Early Life and Education

Michael Raut was born in 1966 in Guilford County, North Carolina. He briefly attended North Carolina A&T State University for two semesters in 1995.

Activism and Personal Life

Raut gained recognition in 1991 for apprehending a rape suspect, earning him the title of "supercitizen" by the Greensboro chapter of the International Union of Police Associations. In 2004, he advocated against the closure of a skate park built by his son and teenage friends, urging a public-private partnership to support youth activities. In 2018, Raut relocated from Greensboro, North Carolina, to Ka'awa, Hawaii.

Criminal History

Raut has a history of arrests and convictions, including:

- 2002: Convicted of firearm possession, resisting arrest, and driving without a license. He engaged in a three-hour standoff with police after being pulled over.

- 2003: Convicted of driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, and fleeing the scene of a crash.

- 2010: Convicted of receiving stolen property.

All of these charges resulted in probationary sentences.
Incident at Trump International Golf Club

On September 15, 2024, Raut allegedly positioned himself on Trump's golf course at 2:00 a.m. He was discovered around 1:31 p.m. He was initially arrested as a person of interest but was later charged with two felonies: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues. On the day of his arraignment, Raut was seen smiling and laughing with his attorney. Footage of his arrest has also been released.
