Biography of Sam Schmid

Sam Schmid is an American student whose story has been called a Medical Miracle. In 2011, at the age of 21, Sam was involved in a terrible accident that left him in a state that could be described as a fatal coma. His parents went through stages of worry and fear, ultimately losing hope. However, just an hour before the life support machines were due to be turned off, Sam miraculously woke up. Not only did he start breathing again, but he soon regained the ability to communicate and even move around in a wheelchair.

Road to Recovery

After waking up from the coma, Sam Schmid quickly began his recovery process. Amazed and grateful, his parents didn't know who to thank, while the doctors spoke of a new medical marvel. Sam gradually started talking again and soon became able to move around independently in a wheelchair. Upon being discharged from the hospital, he actively engaged in physical therapy, resumed his studies at the University of Arizona, and even returned to the basketball court where he had spent so much time before the accident.

Will to Live

Despite the miracle that surrounded his recovery, Sam does not attribute it to any supernatural intervention. However, having experienced the brink of death and turning the situation around in his favor, Sam could not and would not give up. With weak legs, he walked on the sports tracks, threw a lightweight plastic ball into the basket, and developed his strength on the training equipment. He constantly reminded himself that there was no room for retreat. In the end, he emerged victorious, conquering the most significant battle of his life – the battle against death. Two and a half years of grueling daily work, bitter disappointments, and joyous victories led to tears of happiness in the eyes of Sam, his parents, and everyone involved in his journey.
