Early Life
Sandra Perković (born June 21, 1990, in Zagreb, Croatia) began her track and field career at the age of eight. In 2009, she underwent a serious appendectomy, losing 15 kg during the recovery process.
By 2010, Perković had regained her fitness, winning her first major tournament at the European Championships. In 2012, she reclaimed the European title and went on to triumph at the London Olympics with a throw of 69.11 meters.
In 2011, Perković was briefly suspended for six months after testing positive for trace amounts of methylhexanamine. Undeterred, she returned to win more accolades in the years that followed.
Perković achieved back-to-back Olympic victories in London (2012) and Rio (2016), with throws of 69.11 meters and 69.21 meters, respectively.
Her dominance extended to the world stage, claiming gold medals in Moscow (2013) and London (2017). In 2017, she set a personal best of 71.08 meters at the European Championships.
Perković has received numerous Croatian state awards, including the Order of Prince Trpimir (2017), the Order of Prince Branimir (2016), and the Order of the Croatian Star with the Likeness of Franjo Bučar (2012).
