Biography of Sarah Canning

Sarah Canning, a Canadian film actress, gained fame for her role as Jenna Sommers in the television series "The Vampire Diaries" (2009). She was born on July 14, 1987, in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. From an early age, Canning displayed acting abilities. During her teenage years, she moved around frequently with her parents and attended multiple schools.

Early Career

Canning enrolled in acting courses at the Vancouver Film School, which she successfully completed. Her professional stage debut took place at the Citadel Theater in Edmonton in the production of "1984." The initial period of her career was challenging, and she worked part-time at a restaurant. However, she soon decided to immerse herself in the film industry and appeared in the television series "Smallville" (2008) as Cat, followed by several other films. Canning found an agent and began acting in TV series and movies in Vancouver. Her first role was as Nikki Hilton in the film "Paparazzi Princess: The Paris Hilton Story" (2008).

Breakthrough Role and Success

In 2009, Canning played the lead role of Anne Sluti in the film based on true events, "Taken in Broad Daylight." She also starred in the pilot episode of the TV series "The Vampire Diaries" for The CW network. During this time, she portrayed the main character Maggie McGregor in the film "Black Field," which was presented at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2009. Three weeks after filming "Black Field," Canning learned that "The Vampire Diaries" had been picked up, and the shooting continued.

Personal Life

On August 22, 2009, Canning, along with her co-stars from "The Vampire Diaries" Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Kayla Ewell, and photographer Tyler Shields, was arrested in Georgia for disorderly conduct. According to reports, the actresses were shining lights on passing cars under the Grohota Road Bridge in Forsyth, Georgia. Photographer Tyler Shields was fined $4000.
