Biography of Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow

Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow, an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician, was born on September 23, 1976, in Sydney, New South Wales. Her family had returned from the French-speaking Reunion Island, where both her parents were Christian missionaries. Blaskow's mother was a nurse, and her father was a teacher of Hungarian and German languages.

During her time in high school, Blaskow formed a jazz-blues band with her older sister Kate. Although her parents shared apocalyptic messages and interpretations of Scriptures, Blaskow eventually left the church in her final year of school. However, she continued to believe in God.

Blaskow had no formal vocal training until she was 19 years old, when she also began playing the guitar. In 2002, she decided to pursue a solo career and became the author/co-author of her debut release, the six-track EP "Prelusive." She independently recorded and promoted her mini-album, with financial support from her manager Craig New. Blaskow also produced a music video for the lead track, "Your Way," which received airplay on the local radio station 2SER.

After signing with the label Dew Process, Blaskow's debut release was reissued in March 2003. Her first studio album, "The Overture & the Underscore," was released in October 2004 and received critical acclaim. It achieved platinum status in Australia, selling over 70,000 copies and reaching the top 40 of the ARIA album chart. Blaskow was nominated for the ARIA Music Awards four times in 2005, including the category of Album of the Year.

In April 2006, Blaskow recorded her second album, "What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have," in Auckland, New Zealand. She not only sang on the album but also played guitar, organ, vibraphone, and programmed drums. The album debuted at number 7 on the ARIA album chart and received platinum certification. Blaskow also contributed to the orchestration of "Hamlet" by the Australian theater company Bell Shakespeare in 2008.

For her third album, "As Day Follows Night," Blaskow decided to experiment by recording it in Stockholm, Sweden, without electric guitars and keyboards. The album reached number 5 on the ARIA album chart and was released in July 2009.

Blaskow has toured extensively in Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. She has performed in various concerts and collaborated with other artists. Known for her vintage taste in clothing, music, and art, Blaskow has expressed her love for things that have stood the test of time.
