Biography of Sarunas Jasikevicius
Sarunas Jasikevicius is a Lithuanian professional basketball player, currently playing for the club "Fenerbahce-Ulker" and the Lithuanian national team. He plays as a point guard.
Early Life and Education
Jasikevicius was born in Lithuania, but spent 10 years in the United States. He attended Solanco High School in Pennsylvania and later played college basketball for the University of Maryland. Initially playing as a shooting guard, he later transitioned to the point guard position. In his first two years of college, Jasikevicius received limited playing time due to strong competition in his position. However, he improved his passing and defensive skills in his second year, averaging 13 points and four assists per game.
Professional Career
Jasikevicius made his professional debut in 1998 with the team "Lietuvos Rytas" in Vilnius, Lithuania. He averaged 18.0 points and 5.4 assists per game. The following season, he joined the club "Olimpija" in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and won the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League. His average statistics for the season dropped to 9.3 points and 3.4 assists per game.
For the next three seasons, Jasikevicius played for "Barcelona" and won the EuroLeague in 2003. He was a starter, averaging 13.4 points and 3.2 assists per game. He also led the team to two victories in the Spanish league and the Spanish King's Cup. With "Maccabi" in Tel Aviv, Jasikevicius won the EuroLeague in 2004 and 2005, as well as two Israeli championships and the Israeli Cup.
In July 2005, Jasikevicius signed a contract with the NBA team "Indiana Pacers" for 12 million dollars over three years. He played 112 games for the Pacers, averaging 7.3 points and 3 assists per game. In January 2007, he was traded to the "Golden State Warriors" as part of a major deal. However, Jasikevicius struggled to fit into the rotation and only played an average of 12 minutes per game, scoring 4.3 points and 2.3 assists. His contract was terminated in September of the same year.
On September 25, 2007, Jasikevicius signed a contract with the Athens-based club "Panathinaikos" for 7 million euros over two years. In 2009, he became a EuroLeague champion once again, this time with "Panathinaikos", becoming the first player in EuroLeague history to win the trophy with three different clubs. He also won two Greek championships and two Greek Cups with "Panathinaikos". In 2009, Jasikevicius extended his contract with the team for another two years.
