Early CareerSasha Burkhart, a German goalkeeper, began his football journey at the Wartenberger academy. In 2002, he joined the youth ranks of Hertha Berlin.
Professional Debut
On January 30, 2008, Burkhart signed his first professional contract with Hertha Berlin, extending his stay until 2010. His Bundesliga debut came on September 17, 2009, as a substitute for Jaroslav Drobny in a Europa League match against Ventspils. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Bundesliga Debut
Burkhart's Bundesliga debut on September 20, 2009, was a difficult one. Hertha Berlin suffered a 0-4 defeat to SC Freiburg. A week later, Burkhart entered the field in the 33rd minute of a match against Hamburger SV, replacing the injured Timo Ochs. The score was 1-1 at the time.
In a chaotic end to the game, Burkhart attempted to help his defenders clear the ball with a header, leaving his goal undefended. David Jarolím and Zé Roberto took advantage, scoring two goals in a matter of minutes from the halfway line. Hertha Berlin eventually lost the match 1-3.
Contract Extension and Further Career
Despite his early struggles, Burkhart's contract was extended until 2013 in March 2010. He remained a backup goalkeeper for Hertha Berlin until his departure in 2016. He has since played for various clubs in the German lower divisions.
