Sean Penn was born on August 17, 1960, in Burbank, California, USA. He spent his childhood in Santa Monica, where he became friends with Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, and Emilio Estevez.

Sean Penn made his debut in 1981 in the film about cadets in a military school called "Taps". He gained public attention in the teen comedy "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982). The following year, he played his first leading role in the film "Bad Boys" (1983), and then appeared in the romantic film "Racing with the Moon" (1984) with Elizabeth McGovern and the crime film "At Close Range" (1986) with Christopher Walken.

Sean Penn also worked with director Brian De Palma on "Casualties of War" (1989) and "Carlito's Way" (1993), and delivered a brilliant performance in Tim Robbins' drama "Dead Man Walking" (1995), where his partner was Susan Sarandon.
