Early Life and EducationSebastián Alarcón is a renowned Chilean filmmaker and screenwriter who spent a significant portion of his life and career in the Soviet Union. Born in Chile, Alarcón studied at the University of Chile's film school from 1968 to 1969. In 1971, he received a government scholarship to study at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow.
Life in Exile
After the military coup in Chile in 1973, Alarcón decided to remain in the USSR. This choice forced him into exile from his home country. He found work at the prestigious Mosfilm studio, where he honed his filmmaking skills.

In 1977, Alarcón's film "Night over Chile" garnered the Special Prize at the 10th Moscow Film Festival. The film became a powerful testament to the political struggle in Chile during that era.
