Childhood and Early Life

Seidi Haarla was born on September 14, 1984, in Kirkkonummi, Finland, to an artist father and a mother who worked as an ecologist. She has two younger sisters, Ruusu and Siiri. Haarla's paternal grandparents were actor Saulo Haarla and opera singer and actress Helena Salonius, and her great-grandfather was writer and screenwriter Lauri Haarla.

Haarla's early childhood was marked by physical and emotional abuse. These experiences inspired her and her sisters to create the play "New Childhood," which explores the impact of trauma on their lives. Despite the challenges she faced, Haarla acknowledges her father's influence on her ability to play, joke, and think critically.

Theatrical Career

In 2014, Haarla and her sisters gained recognition for their autobiographical play "Body of Trauma." This was followed by "New Childhood" and Ruusu's literary works "Russian" and "Turkkakuolee."

Film and Television Career

Haarla made her screen debut at the age of 12 in the television series "Ei oo koskaan helppoo." After a hiatus of almost 20 years, she returned to acting in 2015 with the short film "Mother." She went on to star in the television series "After the Storm" and feature films such as "Force of Habit," "Holiday Mood," and "Silent Servants" ("Night Watchmen").

Cannes Film Festival and Beyond

Haarla's performance in the 2021 film "Compartment No. 6" received critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival. She was awarded the European Shooting Stars honor for her portrayal of Laura, which captured the jury's attention with its "instinctive, truthful, and understated acting, imbued with an irresistible sense of gravitas."

Personal Life

Haarla is fluent in English and Swedish, and has a basic understanding of Russian. She practices yoga and enjoys singing. She is a mother to a young daughter.
