Her father, Emnetu Tesfay, worked as a documentation manager for the oil company Elf Aquitaine Norge and was actively involved in writing and documenting the history and culture of Eritrea. Growing up, Selome had little interest in theater, but excelled academically and planned to pursue a master's degree in Development studies after graduating from high school.
