Jean-Pierre Collot

Early Life and Education

Jean-Pierre Collot was a renowned French violist and music educator. He graduated from the Paris Conservatory in 1944, where he studied viola with Maurice Vieux and composition with Arthur Honegger.

Chamber Music Career

Collot was a member of several string quartets, and in 1960, he co-founded a string trio with Gérard Jarry and Michel Tournus that performed together for 32 years. He also collaborated on musical projects with Pierre Boulez.

Orchestral Career

From 1957 to 1986, Collot served as a soloist with the Orchester de l'Opéra de Paris. Luciano Berio composed the "Sequenza per viola sola" for Collot.

Teaching Career

Collot taught at the Paris Conservatory from 1969 to 1989. Notable pupils include Jean-Paul Minelli-Bella and Jean Sulem.
