Sergei Aprelsky was born on April 14, 1967, in Ukhta, Komi Republic. From a young age, he immersed himself in the performing arts, pursuing acting on the stage of the Palace of Pioneers.
A Journey into the Performing Arts
After graduating from high school, Sergei enrolled in a forestry technical school. However, he quickly realized that his passion lay elsewhere - on the stage. After two years, he abandoned his studies and embarked on a path towards fulfilling his dream.
Military Service and Artistic Strivings
Following his decision to pursue acting, Sergei fulfilled his military service in Germany. Upon his demobilization, he returned home and worked as a mechanic at a Belgian plant. While simultaneously attending evening school, his aspiration for the stage remained unyielding.
Moscow and the Circus
A year later, Sergei set out to conquer Moscow. Despite failing his entrance exams into a drama school, he found a home in the circus on Lenin Hills. There, he honed his skills as an illusionist in the "Water Feerie" attraction of the renowned performer, Simvolov.
Circus Arts and the Path to Stardom
Inspired by his time in the circus, Sergei enrolled in the Estrange-Circus College. Initially, he pursued circus arts but later switched to the comedy department, specializing in conversational genre. His time at the college enhanced his artistic capabilities, including tap dancing, acrobatics, juggling, and balancing acts.
A Dive into Theater and Television
Sergei's journey continued onto the stage of the "Flying Mouse" theater-cabaret, where he created memorable characters over a five-year period. His solo tap-dance performance became a highlight. Following the sudden passing of the theater's director, Sergei embarked on a freelance career.
The Arrival of Fame
The late 1990s marked a turning point for Sergei. Celebrated filmmaker Stanislav Govorukhin cast him in a small role in "Voroshilov Sharpshooter" (1999). Although minor, this role opened doors for Sergei and brought him recognition.
Cinematic Roles and Villainous Personas
Following his feature film debut, Sergei captured the attention of filmmakers, particularly music video directors. He appeared in over 20 music videos, notably in the infamous "Picnic" chocolate advertisement where he teased an elderly woman with the treat.
Moreover, Sergei's unique physicality resonated with crime filmmakers. He embodied various gangsters in action-thrillers. Notably, he portrayed Mukha in the iconic crime saga "The Brigade" (2002), which garnered immense popularity among audiences and established Sergei's status as a prominent actor.
A Versatile Career
Post-"The Brigade," Sergei's career flourished. He played a wheeler-dealer in "Keys to the Abyss" (2004), an Italian businessman in "Thieves and Prostitutes" (2004), and multiple other diverse roles in films and television series.
