Sergey Gladyr: A Rising Star in European Basketball
Early CareerSergey Gladyr began his professional basketball career in Ukraine, playing for the Mykolaiv team. In the 2007/2008 season, he emerged as a starter, earning recognition as the league's Best Young Player in the first half of the season. Coach Valentin Berestnev praised Gladyr's potential to become a European-level player.
NBA Draft and Spain
In 2009, Gladyr declared his eligibility for the NBA Draft. His impressive performance at the Reebok Eurocamp-2009 caught the attention of scouts, including Jonathan Givony, who lauded Gladyr's shooting and mobility. He was subsequently selected 49th overall by the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks, after observing Gladyr's performance, decided to wait and see how he would fare in a stronger European league. In the summer of 2009, Gladyr signed a three-year contract with the Spanish Liga ACB club, Manresa.
Time in Spain
Gladyr showcased his shooting skills by reaching the final of the Spanish league's three-point shooting contest. However, Spanish journalists noted his inconsistency. Unfortunately, he experienced more disappointing performances than successful ones during his time in Spain.
