Early Life and Marriage
Shaakhmed Shamakhmudov (aka Ahmed), a skilled blacksmith, and his wife, Bakhri Akramova, lived in Tashkent and worked together in the Telman Artel. They formed an unbreakable bond, characterized by unwavering compassion.
A Family of Hearts
With the outbreak of World War II, tragedy struck countless families. Witnessing the plight of orphaned children, Shaakhmed and Bakhri made a remarkable decision: to take these young souls into their home and become their parents. Over the course of the war, they adopted and fostered 15 children of diverse backgrounds, including Raya Maltseva (Belarusian), Malika Islamova (Tatar), Volodia Urusov (Russian), and No-giym (an unknown two-year-old boy whom Shaakhmed named "Gift").
Recognition and Honors
The Shamakhmudovs' extraordinary act of kindness and selflessness did not go unnoticed. Their family became a beacon of hope and inspiration, earning them the prestigious Order of the Badge of Honor. Bakhri Akramova was also honored with the title of "Mother Heroine." Their story touched the hearts of people far and wide, becoming the inspiration for the novel "His Majesty the Man" by Rahmat Fayzi and the poignant film "You Are Not an Orphan."
A Legacy in Stone
The Shamakhmudovs' unwavering commitment to family and their sacrifice during the war left an indelible mark on Tashkent. A street in the city was named after Shaakhmed, and in 1982, the Monument of the Friendship of Peoples was unveiled in their honor. The monument, sculpted by D. B. Ryabichev and designed by L. T. Adamov and S. R. Adylov, symbolized the family's heroic act of fostering orphaned children from across the Soviet Union.

The legacy of the Shamakhmudovs continues to inspire generations. They serve as a reminder of the power of love, compassion, and the extraordinary sacrifices that ordinary people can make to change the lives of others.
