Biography of Shashi Kiran Shetty

Shashi Kiran Shetty is an Indian entrepreneur and the CEO of Allcargo Logistics Ltd, a subsidiary of The Avvashya Group, the first Indian logistics enterprise of international standards.

Early Life

Shetty was born in Bantwal, a small town near the port of Mangalore in Karnataka. He studied economics at a college on the outskirts of Mangalore. His family had practical experience in the field of economics as they were involved in wholesale and retail trading, as well as operating their own oil mill and rice factory.

Entrepreneurial Journey

In 1982, Shetty founded his own logistics company. Although he had some prior experience in the field, his initial resources were limited, starting with just one forklift and four employees. Over time, the seemingly small enterprise not only built a solid client base but also significantly expanded. Interestingly, the first forklift used by Shetty is still kept at one of his factories.

Expansion and Family Business

In 1988, Shetty got married, and around the same time, his younger brother Umesh Shetty and brother-in-law Adarsh Hegde joined the family business. Both of them currently hold key leadership positions in Allcargo Logistics Ltd.

Allcargo Global Logistics

Shetty founded Allcargo Global Logistics in 1992, initially focusing on freight forwarding on international routes. He had a strong intuition about the untapped potential in this area, which later proved to be true. Shetty acquired a major Belgian company and gradually established a presence in the market. The acquisition of two Hong Kong companies further strengthened Allcargo Global Logistics, enabling it to enter the Asian market. Currently, Shetty's company operates on five continents, with offices in 89 countries.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Since childhood, Shetty has been actively involved in various sports such as cricket, football, badminton, and swimming. More recently, he has developed a keen interest in golf. Shetty has always prioritized his family, considering them the most important aspect of his life. Like many prominent entrepreneurs, he supports a number of charitable organizations, sponsoring educational, medical, scientific, sports, and environmental projects.
