Early Life and Career
Simon Martirosyanwas born on February 17, 1997, in the village of Aykashen, Armenia. His journey into weightlifting began in 2012 when he secured third place at the European Youth Championships in the 94 kg category.
International Success
In 2013, Martirosyan's talent shone brightly as he triumphed at both the World Youth Championships and the European Youth Championships for under-17s. His remarkable performance continued at the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, where he claimed victory in the +85 kg category with a total lift of 391 kg.
Olympic Silver and World Championship Glory
At the Rio Olympics in 2016, Martirosyan's determination earned him an impressive silver medal, narrowly missing the gold to Ruslan Nurudinov. Two years later, in 2018, he reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the World Championship title in the 109 kg weight class with a total lift of 435 kg. Notably, he set a world record with a snatch of 240 kg.
Double European Champion
Martirosyan continued his winning streak in 2019, securing his second European Championship title in Batumi. He dominated the competition, lifting a total of 427 kg, with gold medals in both the snatch (192 kg) and clean & jerk (235 kg).

Later that year, at the World Championships in Pattaya, Martirosyan showcased his exceptional strength once more. He lifted a total of 429 kg, becoming world champion in the 109 kg category. In the snatch, he set a new world record with a weight of 199 kg, also claiming gold in the clean & jerk (230 kg).

In 2021, Martirosyan faced a setback at the European Championships in Moscow, failing to qualify in the 109 kg event. However, he demonstrated his resilience by winning a bronze medal in the snatch with a lift of 190 kg.
