Early Life and Career

Sofia Vergara: "La Toti"

Born on July 10, 1972, in Barranquilla, Colombia, Sofia Vergara earned her nickname, "La Toti," from her five siblings and numerous cousins, including television host and reporter Carlos Vergara. Raised in a wealthy family, Sofia attended a bilingual Spanish-English school in her hometown.

At a beach outing, Vergara's striking appearance caught the attention of a photographer. Soon, modeling and television offers poured in, and she decided to pursue them. Initially, her conservative upbringing caused her hesitation, but her fear dissipated with the encouragement of her Catholic school teachers.

Rise to Fame

At 17, Vergara landed her first public Auftritt in a Pepsi commercial that aired throughout Latin America. Needing to support her son, mother, and younger siblings, she left college to pursue a lucrative career.

In her early 20s, Vergara moved to Bogotá, where she became a runway and television model. From 1995 to 1999, she co-hosted "Fuera de Serie" with Fernando Fiore, a travel show that took her to exotic locations worldwide. Univision's international broadcast made Vergara a star in the Latin American market and caught the attention of American audiences. She also hosted Univision's "I Dare You" ("A que no te atreves") and guest-starred in HBO's "Entourage."

Calendar and Advertising Success

In addition to her modeling and television work, Vergara posed for several independent projects. She appeared in swimsuit calendars for 1998, 2000, and 2002, which became bestsellers in Latin America and North America. She appeared in a South American television commercial and a swimsuit poster for a special edition of Miller Lite beer.

Film and Television Career

Vergara has starred in television series including "Acapulco, cuerpo y alma," "My Wife and Kids," and "Eve." She has also appeared in films such as "Big Trouble," "Chasing Papi," "24th Day," "Lords of Dogtown," "Madea Goes to Jail," and Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns."

After her exclusive television contract with Univision ended, Vergara signed with ABC in the United States. With ABC, she has been featured in sitcoms "Modern Family" and "Hot Pursuit."

In 2018, Vergara starred in the British-American comedy "The Con Is On," and the Spanish-American thriller "Bent." She also appeared in the drama "Stano," alongside her husband, Joe Manganiello.

Other Endeavors

In April 2019, Vergara launched a summer clothing line for women in collaboration with Walmart, with each item priced at $38 or less.

Physical Attributes

Vergara stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall (1.70 m) and has blonde hair, though she frequently dyes it brown for film and television roles when required to represent her Latin American heritage.
