Early Life and Musical Background
Soraya Roewer Levy was born into a cultured and musical Jewish family in Niterói, Brazil. Her mother, Malka Manshuk, a renowned lyricist, nurtured both Soraya and her older sister, Ithamara, fostering their musical talents. By the age of five, Soraya had mastered the piano and possessed an exceptional singing voice.

A Multifaceted Talent
Soraya's passion for dance led her to pursue classical ballet, where she excelled as a performer and teacher. However, her interest in theater also ignited, much to her mother's initial surprise. Undeterred, Soraya spent the next decade honing her acting skills on the stage.
Theatrical Breakthrough
In 1999, Soraya's performance as the iconic Brazilian singer Dolores Duran in a stage play earned her the accolade of "Best Theater Actress." The production showcased her remarkable vocal abilities, captivating audiences and establishing her as both an exceptional actress and a singer.
Transition to Television
Ricardo Waddington's discovery of Soraya in the play led to her being cast as Ivete in the telenovela "Força de um Desejo" ("Family Ties"). Initially apprehensive about the transition to television, Soraya hesitantly accepted the role.
Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Success
Soraya struggled to adapt to the nuances of television acting, finding it difficult to restrain the grand gestures and heightened emotions she was accustomed to on stage. However, with the guidance of directors Rogério Gomes and Ricardo Waddington, she gradually found her footing. Soraya's portrayal of Ivete, a woman navigating a tumultuous marriage, resonated deeply with viewers, earning her widespread acclaim.
Artistic Influences and Personal Life
Soraya credits Globo makeup artist and hairdresser Nívea for inspiring her portrayal of Ivete. She also found the whirlwind pace of television production challenging compared to theater, but remained committed to delivering high-quality performances.
During the filming of "Family Ties," Soraya's husband, actor and theater teacher Isaac Bernat, and their 10-year-old daughter Julia lovingly compiled a compilation of Soraya's songs, culminating in a CD release. To celebrate the completion of the telenovela, Soraya hosted a grand party for the cast, serving a traditional Jewish dish she prepared herself.
