Early Life and Education
Henning Eichberg was born the son of a German sociologist and journalist. From 1982, he lived in Denmark. He studied piano at the Copenhagen Conservatory under Friedrich Güttler and later composition and conducting at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Arbo Valdma and Michael Luig, respectively. Despite being largely self-taught in composition, Eichberg attained success in his musical endeavors.
Breakthrough and Recognition
In 2001, Eichberg achieved a significant breakthrough by winning the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels as a composer for his violin concerto, "Qilaatersorneq." This victory led to numerous grants, scholarships, and invitations to prestigious events such as the Tanglewood Music Center and the "Musical Olympus" festival in Saint Petersburg.
Major Works
Among Eichberg's subsequent compositions are a symphony (2005), a cello concerto (2006), a piano concerto, and several chamber works. He also fulfilled a commission from the Busoni International Piano Competition for a mandatory piece for contestants in 2003. In 2009, he completed his first opera, "Greta Minde," which premiered in Tangermünde, Germany, to commemorate the city's 1,000th anniversary.
