Early Life and Education

Stanislav Bogdankevich was born in Belarus in 1935. He graduated from the Pinsk Institute of Accounting and Credit in 1958 and the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Finance and Economics in Moscow in 1964, earning a degree in Finance and Credit. He obtained his Candidate of Economic Sciences in 1978 and his Doctor of Economic Sciences in 1991.

Career in Banking

Bogdankevich embarked on his banking career in 1956 with the Gosbank of the USSR in Belarus. Concurrently, he taught at the Belarusian State Institute of National Economy from 1981 to 1991, where he later became the Head of the Department of Money Circulation and Credit.

Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus

In 1991, Bogdankevich was appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus by the Supreme Council. During his tenure, he was instrumental in establishing the independence of the Belarusian financial system. He also served as the Governor for Belarus in the International Monetary Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 1991 to 1995.

Political Activism

Following his dismissal from the National Bank in 1995, Bogdankevich joined the United Civil Party and became its Chairman in the same year. He remained in this position until 2000, when he became its Honorary Chairman.

Bogdankevich was elected as a Deputy of the Supreme Council of Belarus in 1995 and led the "Civic Action" faction. He also ran for Chairman of the Supreme Council. In 1998, he joined the National Executive Committee, formed by the Belarusian opposition, and served as its Deputy Chairman and Head of the Economic Policy Committee.

Economic Critic and Publications

Bogdankevich is widely respected as one of the most outspoken critics of the economic policies of the Belarusian government. He regularly publishes and gives interviews on economic issues in various media outlets. He has authored over 200 scientific works in the fields of credit, banking, and macroeconomics.

Personal Life

Bogdankevich is married and has three sons. His eldest son, Eduard, was born in 1968, his middle son, Anton, was born in 1971, and his youngest son, Pavel, was born on August 25, 1995.
