Childhood and Early Life
Stefano Cassetti was born on September 4, 1974, in Brescia, Italy. He moved to Milan for nine years after completing secondary school and earned a doctorate in industrial design from the Politecnico di Milano's Faculty of Architecture in 1999. Artistic design became his passion, and he could not imagine himself outside of the profession. Acting was never part of Cassetti's ambitions or youthful plans. He had never attended theater classes and ended up on the set due to a chance encounter.
Break into the Film Industry
After receiving his doctorate, Cassetti decided to meet with friends at a Parisian restaurant, where his Italian accent and striking appearance caught the attention of director Cedric Kahn's film crew, who were about to begin work on the biopic "Roberto Zucco." Cassetti was invited to an audition, but it did not elicit any particular emotions or ignite any ambitions within him. The future celebrity's mother even hypothesized that her son was offered the film role only because no one else was willing to accept it. Six months later, when the man had already begun teaching, he received an invitation to the film shoot. Upon hearing the unexpected news, the Brescia native did not feel jubilant and assumed that his acting experience would remain a brief departure from his career and that he would be able to return to his routine within a few months.
Film Career
Thanks to this realization, Cassetti managed to combine his work as a designer and an actor for two years despite having already received the César award. He did not dare give up his day job, although he received numerous scripts. It was not until 2002 that he decided to dedicate himself entirely to acting, placing it above his achievements in design. He later admitted that after his first film, he turned down several offers from Hollywood. In 2003, the sports action film "Michel Vaillant: Speed Thrills" was released, in which the budding actor landed a supporting role in a story from the life of racing drivers. A year later, Stefano's filmography was enriched by the role of Lorenzo in the drama "Changing Destinies," which was named the best Italian film at the Venice Film Festival. Soon, the performer appeared in the drama "Liberation," which narrates the events of the Italian occupation of Corsica during World War II.
Cassetti's television debut came in 2006 with the feature-length film "Bella Donna," and in the same year the horror film "Poltergay" and the teen drama "Shepherd's Angels" premiered. In 2010, he starred alongside Lio and Michel Galabru in Kaïtel Quillévéré's directorial debut "Love Like Poison," which received the Jean Vigo Prize for independence of thought and originality of style. Two years later, viewers saw the imposing Italian in Estelle Larrivaz's directorial effort "Paradise of Monsters," where he portrayed the domineering and cruel pet store owner Dominique, whose relationship with his wife had reached a critical point. His next work was a small role in François Ozon's romantic drama "Young and Beautiful." In 2014, for the American channel NBC, the actor transformed into the devil himself in Agnieszka Holland's television miniseries "Rosemary's Baby," which was a remake of the horror film directed by Roman Polanski in 1968.
In 2017, fans of the crime series "Spiral" enjoyed the actor's icy beauty for three episodes. After that, several more supporting roles appeared in the performer's portfolio with a brief hiatus - in "Summer House," "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec," and "The Collini Case." Stefano continued to win the hearts of viewers in the science fiction series "Into the Night" and the tragicomedy "Jailbirds."
Personal Life
The professionally accomplished artist is now 50 years old and has never married, nor does he currently show any plans to walk down the aisle and start a family. Despite having worked in the industry for several decades, he has never been spotted in a romantic relationship with anyone, except for one instance when photos of the celebrity appeared in the press with his companion arriving at a film premiere in Cannes. Recent Projects
On April 10, 2024, the Netflix platform presented the first part of the six-episode miniseries "Anthracite," which transported the audience to a small village in the mountains, where everyday life is interspersed with deaths and sectarian fanaticism. Along with Cassetti, the film stars Attick, Noemie Schmidt, Camille Lou, Nicolas Gob, Jean-Marc Barr, and Kad Merad.
On June 27, the drama directed by Charles Gervais Sulpice entitled "Folie," a joint production of Austria, France, Italy, and Hong Kong, became available to Russian viewers for the first time. The film, in which Stefano Cassetti and Manal Issa play the lead roles, tells the story of a film director who, after an accident on the set, tries to collect fragments of reality and constantly returns in his thoughts to a love that was lost.
