Biography of Suzanna Brankini

Suzanna Brankini is an Italian soprano singer born in Rome. Her father is Italian, while her mother comes from the Caribbean islands. Brankini graduated with honors from the Francesco Morlacchi Music Conservatory in Perugia and has successfully participated in various international competitions. She was a finalist in Toulouse and the As.Li.Co. competition and won the Mattia Battistini competition, known as the "King of Baritones."

Operatic Debut and Repertoire

Brankini made her operatic debut in Rome in 2002, performing the role of Micaela in "Carmen." She then went on to portray characters such as Liu in "Turandot" and Mimi in "La Bohème." Her vocal talents quickly allowed her to tackle more complex repertoire, both technically and dramatically. This includes leading female roles in operas such as "Aida," "Il Trovatore," "Don Carlo," "Attila," and Verdi's "Macbeth." These roles showcase her artistic temperament and acting abilities. It is worth mentioning that Brankini opened the 2012-2013 season at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona with the role of Lady Macbeth.

Suzanna Brankini excels in performing the psychologically profound and lyrical operas of Puccini, including "Tosca," "Madama Butterfly," "Il Tabarro," and "Suor Angelica." She has performed in prestigious theaters in Italy and around the world, such as the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Arena di Verona, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. Outside of Italy, Brankini has sung at the Opéra de Nice, Vlaamse Opera in Antwerpen, Oper Leipzig, Savonlinna Festival, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Hong Kong Opera, and Bunkamura Theater in Tokyo.

Collaborations

Throughout her career, Brankini has had the opportunity to work with renowned conductors such as Maurizio Arena, Maurizio Barbacini, Nikša Bareza, Andrea Battistoni, Maurizio Benini, Giampaolo Bisanti, Massimo De Bernardt, Gabriele Gelmetti, Vladimir Jurowski, Günther Neuhold, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, and many others. She has also collaborated with esteemed directors, including Franco Zeffirelli, Giancarlo Del Monaco, and Peter Konwitschny.

Upcoming Performances

In the near future, Brankini is scheduled to perform as Leonora in "Il Trovatore" at the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata. She will also sing the role of Tosca in Antwerpen and take part in a gala concert dedicated to the works of Verdi and Wagner alongside Placido Domingo at the Arena di Verona.
