Biography of Sylvia Bataille
Sylvia Bataille, previously known as Sylvia Maklès, was born on November 1, 1908, in Paris, France. She was of Romanian-Jewish descent. At the age of 20, she married the writer Georges Bataille. They had a son in 1930, who would later become a psychoanalyst named Laurence Bataille, but unfortunately, he passed away in 1986. Although Sylvia and Georges began living separately in 1934, they officially divorced in 1946.
Partnership with Jacques Lacan
Starting from 1938, Sylvia Bataille's partner was the psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. In 1941, she gave birth to their daughter Judith, who is now known as Judith Miller and has also become a psychoanalyst. Sylvia and Jacques got married in 1953.
Acting Career
Sylvia Bataille began her acting career as a student of Charles Dullin. She made her debut in theater with the agitprop group "Groupe Octobre," led by Jacques Prévert. In 1933, she made a cameo appearance in a film, and three years later, she portrayed her most notable role as Henriette in Jean Renoir's 40-minute melodrama "Partie de campagne" (English title: "A Day in the Country").
She further contributed to French cinema with films like the adventure comedy "Adémaï aviateur," the comedy "Topaze," the drama "Cargaison blanche" (English title: "White Cargo"), and the historical drama "L'affaire du courrier de Lyon" (English title: "The Courier of Lyon"). After her roles in films such as "Les portes de la nuit" (English title: "Gates of the Night"), "Amore, L'" (English title: "Love"), and "Aller et retour," Bataille's final appearance was in 1950, playing Lucie in Jacques Manuel's film "Julie de Carneilhan."
