A Heartbreaking Childhood Trauma
At the tender age of five, Tej Biswokarma endured a life-altering tragedy when the kerosene lamp he was filling exploded. The catastrophic accident left him with burns covering an estimated 70% of his body. The excruciating pain and severe disfigurement, including lips that melted and adhered to his chest, made it impossible for Tej to speak or eat solid food.
Desolation and Isolation
For five agonizing years, Tej lived in isolation, haunted by the physical and emotional scars of his incident. The severe contractures prevented him from moving his shoulders, neck, or teeth. People's cruel stares and avoidance deepened his depression and despair.
A Glimmer of Hope
In 2006, the Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Kathmandu offered a free plastic surgery camp, a beacon of hope for Tej and his family. There, he encountered Dr. Jaswan Shakya, who was stunned by the severity of his injuries.
A Journey of Transformation
Over the next several years, Tej underwent eight surgeries, all performed at no cost to his family. Dr. Shakya, who became like a second father to Tej, meticulously restored his disfigured face, neck, and torso. With each procedure, Tej's functionality and confidence grew.
Love and Family
Amidst his recovery, Tej found solace in the friendship and love of his neighbor, Sharmila Kumari. Despite initial disapproval from her parents due to his scars, they eventually married in 2015. Their joy was multiplied with the birth of their son, Kapil, who is now 10 months old.
Rekindling Education
Tej's determination knows no bounds. He has resumed his education and is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in education. His aspiration is to become a teacher, giving back to society by inspiring future generations.

Tej's heart overflows with gratitude for Dr. Shakya and the hospital staff who transformed his life. He is eternally thankful for the opportunity to experience love, family, and a future filled with purpose.
