Early Life and Education
Teresa Palmer was born in Adelaide, South Australia, to Kevin Palmer, an investor, and Paula Sanders, a former nurse and missionary. Her parents divorced when she was three years old, and she later gained a stepmother, Kaaren Palmer, along with two stepsisters and two stepbrothers. Raised in a "fairly strict" Catholic upbringing, which she attributes to her mother's manic depression, Palmer attended Mercedes College.
Early Career
While still a student, Palmer participated in the "Search for a Movie Star" local casting call in 2003. She made her acting debut in the student film "2:37," after the director discovered her audition tape featuring a suicide scene. Before this, she had worked as a Strawberry Shortcake and Santa's Little Helper promotor at shopping centers.
Breakthrough Role in "2:37"
Palmer's performance in "2:37" as a suicidal high school student garnered critical acclaim. She was nominated for the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actress. Her subsequent role in the psychological thriller "Restraint" earned her recognition as a "Star of Tomorrow" by Screen International.
Hollywood Debut
After the success of "2:37," Palmer moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue her career. She initially faced loneliness and depression but eventually found companionship. In 2008, she became the face of Sydney jeweler Jan Logan's jewelry collection.
Notable Films
Palmer's Hollywood debut came in "The Grudge 2." She went on to star in "December Boys" alongside Daniel Radcliffe, in which she drew inspiration from Dominique Swain's performance in "Lolita" to portray her character's sexual openness. She also played opposite Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," portrayed an alien in "I Am Number Four," and appeared as the love interest in "Take Me Home Tonight."
