Biography of Teresa Wright

Teresa Wright, an American actress, was born on October 27, 1918, in Harlem, New York, to Martha (nee Espy) and Arthur Wright. Her father was an insurance agent. She grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, and graduated from Columbia High School in 1938. After graduation, Teresa returned to New York and began her acting career, making her film debut in "Our Town" in which she played the role of Emily. In the fall of 1939, Teresa Wright performed in the play "Life with Father" and continued to portray the character of Mary Skinner for the next two years. In the early forties, the actress signed a five-year contract with a Hollywood film studio. This contract was unique in many ways, including some rather strange provisions, such as not allowing the actress to be photographed on the beach with her hair down and blowing in the wind. In 1941, Teresa made her debut in the film "The Little Foxes" and received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. The following year, she was once again nominated for an Oscar, this time for her role in "The Pride of the Yankees". In 1943, Teresa Wright collaborated with Alfred Hitchcock, appearing in the film "Shadow of a Doubt". She then went on to shine in films such as "Casanova Brown" (1944), "The Best Years of Our Lives" (1946), "Enchantment" (1947), "Pursued" (1948), and "The Men" (1950). Throughout the remaining years of the twentieth century, Teresa Wright continued to actively act in films, delighting her fans with her superb performances. Around the early sixties, she began working in television and also performed on the Broadway stage. The veteran theatergoers still remember her performances in "Death of a Salesman" and "Morning's at Seven", among other plays. Teresa Wright's talent and contribution to the industry were recognized and rewarded, as she was honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The talented actress passed away on March 6, 2005.
