Early Career and BreakthroughThomaz Cocchiarali Bellucci, born December 30, 1987, in Tietê, Brazil, began his professional career in 2007 ranked 582nd. By the end of the year, he had climbed to 202nd.
In early 2008, Bellucci reached the quarterfinals of the ITF Challenger in São Paulo. After an underwhelming performance at several tournaments, he returned to form in February, defeating Werner Eschauer in an ATP event.
His Grand Slam debut came at the French Open, where he lost in the first round to Rafael Nadal. At Wimbledon, he notched his first Grand Slam victory, defeating Igor Kunitsyn in four sets.
Success at Swiss Open and Rise in Rankings
In August 2009, Bellucci won the Swiss Open in Gstaad, defeating Andreas Beck in the final. This victory propelled him 53 spots up the ATP rankings to 66th.
