Biography of Tiago Splitter

Tiago Splitter, a Brazilian basketball player, has achieved great success in his basketball career, although not in teams from his native country. While he has played actively for the Brazilian national team, Splitter has spent much more time in the Spanish Liga ACB and the NBA. He is currently a professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Brazilian national team.

Early Career

Splitter's professional career began in 1999, and in 2000, he played for the Spanish Liga ACB team, Saski Baskonia. In 2004, Tiago became a naturalized citizen of Spain. He achieved impressive results with Spanish teams, winning the Spanish Supercup's Most Valuable Player award in 2006 and 2007. In the 2007-2008 season, he was selected for the All-Euroleague first team for his outstanding performance with Saski Baskonia in the Euroleague Final Four.

NBA Career

In the 2008 NBA draft, Splitter was selected in the first round as the 28th overall pick. However, he continued to play in the Spanish Liga ACB for one more year. In 2010, Splitter was named the Most Valuable Player of the Spanish League. He finally joined the San Antonio Spurs on July 9, 2010, signing a three-year contract worth around $1 million. Splitter made his NBA debut on March 19, 2011, as a substitute for the injured Tim Duncan.

Achievements and Personal Life

In his career, Splitter has been selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge in 2012, but was unable to play due to injury. In the 2012-2013 season, he had his most productive season, playing in all the games except the final and achieving his best average statistics. Splitter signed a new contract with the San Antonio Spurs on July 13, 2013.

As a member of the Brazilian national team, Splitter has won gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2003 and the FIBA Championships in 2005 and 2009. He is married to Amaia, and they have a son named Benjamin. Splitter's sister, Michelle, was also a talented basketball player but sadly passed away from leukemia in 2009.
