Biography of Tikhon Kulikovsky-Romanov

Tikhon Nikolaevich Kulikovsky-Romanov (1882-1960) was born in Crimea. He was the eldest son of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna and Colonel Nikolai Alexandrovich Kulikovsky. Tikhon was the grandson of Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna, and the nephew of Emperor Nicholas II.

Early Life and Emigration

Tikhon grew up in a noble family in Voronezh, Russia. His father, Nikolai, was a colonel and a participant in the First World War. His mother, Olga, was a grand duchess and served as his regiment's commander. After the February Revolution in 1917, Tikhon's family, along with Empress Maria Feodorovna, relocated to Crimea. It was there that Tikhon was named after Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk.

After the murder of the imperial family and the subsequent exile of other family members, Tikhon's family remained the only representatives of the Romanov dynasty in Russia. They lived in the village of Novominskaya in Kuban. In 1920, as the Red Army approached, Tikhon, along with his parents and brother, left Russia and emigrated to Denmark, where his widowed grandmother, Empress Maria Feodorovna, had already arrived.

Life in Denmark and Education

Tikhon was raised in a Russian environment and was fluent in Russian. His parents' home gradually became a center for the Russian community in Denmark. He received his education at Russian gymnasiums in Berlin and Paris, and later attended a Danish military academy. During World War II, after the occupation of Denmark by the German army, Tikhon, along with the Danish army, was held in internment camps and spent several months in prison.

In 1948, Tikhon and his family, along with Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, were forced to leave Denmark. He later worked in the Department of Highways in Ontario, Canada.

Marriages and Family

Tikhon married Agnete Petersen in Copenhagen in 1942, but they divorced in 1955. They did not have any children. On September 21, 1959, Tikhon married Livia Sebastian in Ottawa. They had one daughter, Olga Tikhonovna, born in Toronto on January 9, 1964. Olga later married Joyce Cordiero.

On June 8, 1986, Tikhon married Olga Nikolaevna Pupynina in Toronto.

Death and Legacy

Tikhon Nikolaevich Kulikovsky-Romanov passed away on April 8, 1993, after undergoing heart surgery. His funeral took place at the Holy Trinity Church in Toronto, and he was buried at York Cemetery in Toronto, next to his parents, Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna and Colonel N.A. Kulikovsky.

On April 10, 1993, the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" published a report from Reuters titled "Another Pretender to the Russian Throne has Passed Away".
