Tom Anderson is an Australian yachtsman and an Olympic gold medalist in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Early Life and Training
Tom was born into a seafaring family and began sailing at a young age under the tutelage of his father, alongside his twin brother John. They trained together but had different specialties and sailed in separate classes at the Olympics.
Olympic Success
Anderson made his Olympic debut at the 1968 Mexico City Games, where Australia finished fifth in the team event. At the 1972 Munich Olympics, he reached the pinnacle of his career, winning gold in the Dragon class with crewmates John Cuneo and John Shaw. Remarkably, his twin brother John also won gold that day in the Star class, making them the only twins in Olympic history to win gold on the same day in different classes.
