Tom Leppard - The Leopard Man
Tom Leppard, also known as the Leopard Man or Leopard Man of Skye, was born in 1934 or 1935 in Woodbridge, Suffolk. He gained fame as the former record holder for the Most Tattooed Man in the World, with 99.2% of his body covered in leopard-like tattoos. His unique appearance earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
A Life in Seclusion
For many years, Tom Leppard lived as a recluse in a small cabin, keeping the exact location a secret. He grew weary of the constant attention and prying eyes. Before embracing his leopard identity, Tom even had dental implants to resemble feline teeth. Despite his record-breaking tattoos, his ears and small areas between his toe fingers were the only parts of his body left "untouched" by ink.
A Military Background
Prior to his secluded lifestyle, it is known that Tom Leppard served in the military for 28 years, specifically in the Royal Air Force. He had no intention of returning to civilization, as he was content with his solitary life in the wild.
A Change of Scenery
In 2008, Tom agreed to leave his stone cabin and move to a more comfortable dwelling in Broadford, Skye. At the age of around 70, he was tired of risking his life while kayaking in dangerous waters. Although he now lives in a more comfortable setting with access to electricity and furniture, his 20 years in the wild have left a lasting impact.
A Loner at Heart
Despite his newfound comfort, Tom Leppard still maintains his hermit-like habits. He has no interest in television, radio, or phones, and his belongings could fit into a couple of garbage bags. He has little contact with his family, including three brothers and several nieces and nephews, as they have little in common. Tom is accustomed to and content with his solitude.
A Unique Legacy
Tom Leppard initially pursued his leopard persona as a means of making money, and he estimates that it was worth the investment of around 5,500 pounds. Though he now enjoys comfort and popularity in his community, he has no desire to interfere in the lives of others or allow them to interfere in his. Despite the bare walls of his apartment, which he still calls home, it represents a significant step towards civilization compared to his previous life in the wild.
