Tressa Montalvo: A Mother of Two Sets of Identical Twins

Tressa Montalvo, a 36-year-old Texas resident, made medical history when she gave birth to two sets of identical twins. On Valentine's Day, Ace and Blaine, along with the other pair, Cash and Dylan, arrived at The Woman's Hospital in Houston, Texas.

A Rare Pregnancy

According to Dr. James Grifo of the New York University Fertility Center, this type of pregnancy is incredibly rare. He notes that even a single set of identical twins is an uncommon occurrence, making this case truly exceptional. Notably, the babies were conceived naturally without the use of fertility treatments.

A Planned Pregnancy, an Unexpected Surprise

Tressa and her husband, 43-year-old Manuel Montalvo Jr., had planned this pregnancy, hoping to give their two-year-old son, Memphis, a sibling. However, they admitted, "We guess we went a little overboard." The couple learned about the presence of four babies during Tressa's pregnancy. "We were just shocked when they told us four because we were convinced the whole time it was only two," they said.

A Joyous Arrival

Despite their initial surprise, Tressa and Manuel welcomed the quadruplets and cherish their growing family. They do, however, still hope to have a daughter in the future. The babies were born via cesarean section at 31 weeks.

A Previous Case

The last known case of a woman giving birth to two sets of identical twins occurred in April 2011. Miranda and Josh Crawford from Charlotte, North Carolina, welcomed a set of twin girls and a set of twin boys through artificial insemination.
