Ural Ussenov: A Legendary Mountaineer and Trainer

Ural Ussenov, a renowned Soviet and Kazakh mountaineer and trainer, was born in 1929. His journey began at the "Gorelnik" training center, where he became an instructor in 1947.

Early Career

For over half a century, Ussenov served as an instructor at the Kazakh Climbers' Club. He simultaneously taught physical education at a school in Almaty. In 1955, he embarked on an expedition to Pik Pobedy led by Evgeny Kolkolnikov. Tragedy struck when Ussenov emerged as the sole survivor of the summit team, apart from four climbers who had turned back earlier.

Ascent of Pik Pobedy

In 1956, Ussenov joined a combined team of the Moscow Sports Society "Spartak" and the Kazakh Climbers' Club led by Vitaly Abalakov. Together, they successfully ascended Pik Pobedy.
