Early Life and Education
Valeria Arlanova was born on April 20, 1971, in the Belarusian town of Molodechno. Her parents worked in unrelated fields, with her father as an engineer and her mother as a secretary-typist. Arlanova's interest in the arts manifested early when she learned to read at the age of two and a half and thought she was on the screen when watching a film at four. Despite her creative passions, she excelled academically and initially planned to pursue a career in pedagogy. However, after failing her entrance exam, she worked at the post office for three years before finally succeeding in her third attempt to enter the Belarusian Academy of Arts.
Theatrical Career
Arlanova's theatrical debut took place on the stage of the Republican Theater of Belarusian Drama "Volnaya Scena." She subsequently performed at the National Theater named after Yanka Kupala and the Minsk Regional Drama Theater. Since 1996, she has been associated with the Theater-Studio of Film Actors at "Belarusfilm."
Film Career
Arlanova's film career began with a small role in the 1993 film "Dafnis and Chloe." After several supporting roles, she had her breakthrough in 2001 with Alexander Efremov's "Povodir" (The Blind Man), followed by another leading role in Efremov's "Dunechka" (2004).
Arlanova gained wider recognition in the Russian-Belarusian television series "Muzhchiny ne plachut" (Men Don't Cry) and the Belarusian melodrama "Soblazn" (Temptation), where she starred alongside Sergei Astakhov.
Her portrayal of a complex aging character in the 12-part Russian drama "Tyazholy pesok" (Heavy Sand), an adaptation of Anatoly Rybakov's novels, further cemented her reputation. She also played a similar role in Vladimir Balkashinov's "Cactus and Elena," which spanned her character's life from 17 to 30.
Arlanova collaborated with notable actors such as Dmitry Pevtsov and Danila Kozlovsky in the 2009 military drama series "Pokushenie" (Assassination). Among her recent film credits are "Pseudonim 'Albanets'" (Pseudonym "Albanets"), "Odinoky ostrov" (Lonely Island), and "V tesnote, da ne v обиde" (In Close Quarters, But Not Offended).
Personal Life
Arlanova has been married twice. Her first marriage to director Sergei Arlanov, from whom she kept her stage name, ended in divorce. She subsequently married director Alexander Efremov, who is 20 years her senior. While the couple has no children, Arlanova values the privacy of her personal life.
