Valentin Krasinski: A Polish Historian and Publicist

Born in Belarus, Valentin Krasinski graduated from Vilnius University and served in Warsaw. During the Polish uprising of 1830-31, he was dispatched on a diplomatic mission to England, where he remained in exile until his death.

Diplomatic Mission and Exile

Krasinski became an envoy for Poland in England during the 1830-31 uprising. After the uprising's failure, he chose to stay in England, dedicating his life to scholarly work.

Literary Contributions

Throughout his life, Krasinski authored numerous works on Polish and Slavic history, religion, and politics. His most significant publications include:

"The Rise, Progress and Decline of the Reformation in Poland" (1839-1840)

"Panslavism and Germanism" (1848)

"Lectures on the Religious History of the Slavonic Nations" (1850-1851)

"The Polish Question" (1855)
"Poland, its History, Constitution, Literature etc." (1885)
Anti-Russian Stance

Krasinski's writings consistently expressed an anti-Russian stance. He criticized Russian policies towards Poland and Slavic nations, arguing for the preservation of their autonomy and cultural heritage. His anti-Russian sentiment was a reflection of the tense relationship between Poland and Russia during the 19th century.
