Vasily Vasilyevich Lazarev was born on August 6, 1981 in the village of Banya-Berezov in the Kosiv district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He is a Ukrainian singer known for his beautiful and rare vocal timbre - a "velvety" bass-baritone.
Early Years and Education
From 1987 to 1998, Lazarev studied at the Sredneberezhivska Secondary School and graduated with honors. During his school years, he also received training in piano and bayan (a type of accordion) at a music school. In 1998, he entered the music faculty of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he studied until 2002.
Musical Career
In 2003-2004, Lazarev became an actor in the First Ukrainian Musical "Equator," directed by Alexander Shulakov and composed by Alexander Zlotnik with lyrics by Alexander Vratarev. This marked the beginning of his collaboration with the renowned composer Alexander Zlotnik. In 2004, Lazarev participated in the International Festival "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk, Belarus, after which he was invited to join the State Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus by its artistic director, Mikhail Finberg.
From 2004 to 2005, Lazarev worked as a soloist for the State Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus under the guidance of People's Artist of the USSR Mikhail Finberg. In 2005, he won the Grand Prix at the International Contest "Otchiy Dom" in Donetsk, Ukraine. That same year, Lazarev participated in the Italian Festival "Retrofest" and received the highest award for "Best Voice of the Festival."
In 2005, Lazarev enrolled in the Tchaikovsky Music Academy in Kyiv, Ukraine, studying vocal art at the faculty of "Vocal Art." His vocal teacher was People's Artist of Ukraine, soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine, and professor Alexander Dyachenko. In 2007, Lazarev represented Ukraine at the International Contest of Young Performers of Popular Music "New Wave" in Jurmala, Latvia.
Eurovision and Beyond
In 2009, Lazarev won the National Selection of Ukraine for Eurovision, chosen unanimously by the National Council of Directors of Telecompay. However, due to a change in leadership of the National Television Company, his candidacy was later canceled, and a new national selection was held in which Lazarev participated.
In 2011, Lazarev founded the concert company Grand Concert, which organized large-scale cultural and national projects, including tours for Ukrainian and international artists. One of the company's flagship projects was the annual event "Tebi Yedynyi" (For You, My Only One) dedicated to International Women's Day, where male artists performed their popular hits accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
Since 2016, Lazarev has been collaborating with a global music label and has moved to Europe to further his career.
